Thought regretted

I’d almost overlooked this, but it’s such a fine example of how the Muftim’s Tim Blair’s followers can be such a credit to him.

Blair regular Mentalfloss, commenting on a well-known leftist, um, academic, demonstrates the blairbots’ general level of commitment to healthy debate:

It makes me fear for what I might do if I were actually to hear the words this, this plasmodial myxomycophyta whilst in the same room.

Guess I’m lucky I left my 9mm Baretta in the US when I moved here. It jammed every fifth shot, but that’s about the number of Faculty Heads in a given department...

Oh, how very delightful! — in the immediate aftermath of yet another campus shooting spree in Mr Floss’s native US.

Perhaps in recognition of this, less than a half-hour later this character had second or maybe third thoughts:

The last paragraph was in very poor taste and I regret posting it, much less thinking it.

Oh, how very enlightened! We all have regrets, and one can only guess Mr Floss in his earlier comment was shooting from the hip... um... shooting first and asking questions later... er...

But it’s okay, peer-group pressure can be very powerful, and one may well understand the impulse to sound off in a manner to which one’s cohorts expect of one.

Mmmm, yes. One wonders about a mind that might conjure such flippancy.

I practise catch and release fishing (aside from the noxious - like redfin). It's passingly difficult to practise shoot and regret.

What an absolute moron. An absolute testament to that particular US species: wedded to the right to use...err, sorry...bear arms.

A moron, indeed.

I hesitated to post this, as it's probably a bit of a cheap shot -- er, metaphorically speaking, I hasten to add.

I mean, who do I think I am? Tim Blair??

Greetings Father Park and Jacob, trust you are both well. Sadly this sort of comment is rather typical of many on internet forums and blogs. Just have a read of a few of the bile soaked attitudes displayed on the academics site you noted.
You made comment on walking away from blogging and that is just what I have done. I still look occasionally but have very minimal incination to add comments. It was a little hard at first, but it gets far easier. Some of the comments at various sites made me shake my head. Comments from both sides of the political spectrum. Most of the people who make these comments are not worth bothering about. You dont "win", all that happens is you get into a mind game with them.

Is it worth it? Not to me.

Someone put the following link up on a model railway forum. Arguments on there can get just as viper like as anywhere else!

If you added Park's and Stam's intellects together and multiplied by ten you still wouldn't get anything that could deliver a scratch on Mentalfloss.

This pair of dopey dickheads don't even have the brains to know when they are totally out of their class.

Fuckwits.

I'm sure it can do better than that.

Come on anon give it your best shot.

Gee whillickers, Anon!

I mean, like, Wow!!

Your devastating polemic would seem to have established that it requires

IQ > 10(Park+Stam)

to publicly swagger and fantasise about dispatching a median number of faculty heads with a faulty 9mm baretta.

Frankly, I'm in awe and on the verge of finally giving up the field of blogging to my betters.

The guy isn't anonymous.
He put his name at the end of his puerile comment.

'Fuckwits'

Lol! Aptly named wouldn't you agree?

Greetings 2 u 2, Craig.

You certainly have a point about the bile-soaked antics of the, um, academic in question, but as you suggest that kind of crap is quite endemic on either side of the political blog-divide.

Excellent cartoon you've linked to, says it all. And well done with giving it up, perhaps someday I'll have the self-control to follow your example.

But do remember, there's no such thing as an 'ex-blogger'. There's only a permanent state of 'recovery'.

Aahhhh.... well-spotted Kath!!

Why don't we all give it up, or at least become recovering floggers?

We could simply set up a support group on the net and overcome our problem.

Kath, anon must be a little schizo, otherwise he would have signed off as "Fuckwit". Of course he may be of eastern European descent but then he would have signed off as Fuckwitz.

I suspect "Fuckwits" is a schizophrenic Polish guy who never learnt how to spell his name properly.

Poor Fuckwitz, now I feel sorry for him.

Jacob, we are in the presence of an extraordinarily gifted blogging ananymous (= coward). Pity poor old Fuckwits - left his 9mm brain back in the US and thus has dificulty remembering his name.

Just what is it about fuckwits and their guns?

I'm usually inclined to ignore commenters who don't have the sac to present with some recognisable 'handle', but our Anon here is just such a screaming parody that, well...
