Blog Warriordom: a modern tragedy

Craig in comments linked to an excellent cartoon depicting the personal tragedy that is modern Blog Warriordom.

As it happens, I found in my inbox today an animated depiction of a full-blown, catastrophic case of this potentially fatal condition. Due to it’s graphic nature, it’s presented here ‘below the fold’ to protect the sensibilities of the squeamish. (If it’s not visible and you’re game, please click ‘read more’...)

I saw Craig's cartoon on Fark the other day and could instantly relate. Now there's a site that has me typing like crazy in snarky, pointless - but usually amusing - internet arguments!:)

LOL. :-D

I have to confess to being guilty as charged, more often than I want to remember.

I did finally *get a grip* and rarely fall into the trap these days.

Oh, yeah, that might have more to do with not having enough time.

Hmm. The "trap" awaits a job that demands less of my time and lets me blog from work again. :-D

I must be looking at the wrong part of Fark, Dylan, so far I've only seen commenters trading one-liners.

Yes, Caz, time is a resource that's too scarce these days to be spent arguing with people on blogs.

Perhaps the best approach is something like: I rant, you decide.

And don't hang around waiting for the wrong decision.

I rather fancy that:

"I rant, you decide."

Up until now I've considered myself to have almost mastered what I like to think of as "fly by commenting" - fly in, crap all over everything, fly out.

Or pigeon commenting, to coin a variation on the better-known expression from the business world - pigeon management.

Caz, I have been guilty of the pigeon bit at times. I dont actually intend too but what usually happens is I find a comment (not here, but other places) sufficiently annoying that I just have to comment. It is usually directed against some of the regulars whom i am non too fond of. No names, but Kathy can probably work out at least one of them. Anyways, I send the comment off, get a reply or two and then realise that I am getting sucked into the vortex again. So I stop very quickly.

I saw a letter in the SMH today lamenting how the major parties have all the power and people should vote for the greens. Yeah right. These are the same Greens who "bitterly opposed" a desalination plant and then directed preferences in every seat (except Marickville) to the party proposing it?

I was oh so tempted to flick off a reply. Do you see how easy it is?
