Life on (less) Mars

In the interests of the health of the nation Mars Australia has announced a reduction in “portion size” of its eponymous chocolate bar (along with Milky Way, Snickers, Maltesers and Twix).

According to Australia general manager Peter West, the company is responding responsibly to the ongoing “obesity debate”. Key to this was “portion size”:

The portion size that people are eating, whether the muffin you buy, or the cake, or when you go to a restaurant, the size of the plate in front of you - we want to make sure we sell our portions in the right size.
So, in the interests of health, said eponymous chocolate bar will be reduced some 7g or 11.6%. This removes unhealthy calories so Mr West intoned on the evening news services.

Just how “healthy” then are the remaining 53 grams?

And by the way, the price is not reducing by 11.6%. That, seemingly, would not be a “healthy” option for Mars Confectionery.

They wonder why we’re cynical bastards…

*Loud and angry swearing in my head*

Mars Bars, one of my absolute favourite chocolate bars, and the patronising f*ing f*ers now want to take some of it away from me because they want to make decisions about my health (instead of me making those decisions?

BASTARDS!

*Loud and angry swearing* is in my head because I'm at work. And it would be amusing, but not necessarily pleasant, for everyone else here if I were to burst out into several very loud, very profane words in their presence.
