spot of train spotting #2

Having long retired from plying the wilds of suburban Adelaide, Red Hen 402 climbs the Bena Bank — a 1:40 grade, I was assured by a train groupie with whom we were riding.

Below is the roomy interior, a suburban commuter’s dream, waiting to depart from Leongatha station.

After a day well spent plying the wilds of South Gippsland, Rail Motor 55RM (below) arrives at the Korumburra terminus. This vehicle, converted from petrol to diesel in the late 1950s, is indicative of the passenger rolling stock which serviced many country lines in Victoria in days of yore.

Rockin’
Rollin’
Ri-yi-yi-yi-idin’

Buckling of the rails, below, particularly during the warmer months, occasionally makes for an interesting ride.

I'm sure they weren't more comfortable than what we have today (on the other hand, maybe they were), but that interior shot is quite beautiful.

Roomy seats too. Maybe they should bring back the old trains to accommodate expanding girths.

Except for the fact that the average McDonalds size arse wouldn't make it up the aisle?

Not one slashed seat nor smear of graffitti. Trains on time, no cancellations, no wheedling excuses about "a defective train at Flinders St."

A model of efficiency!!

Minister Kosky and the Connex parasites should go on a fact-finding tour and learn how to run a bloody railroad.

About the same width as the new trains Father, and yes, there is many a McArse that struggles, hence why they often loiter in the door ways or such.

Must be worse on planes.

Not to mention, Jacob, that there were more train trips and more passengers 50 years ago, yet we Melbournians keep being told that our rail system (with new features like the loop), is running "at capacity". Jeez they must think we're stupid.

They think we're all stupid Caz. One of the things Harry was spot-on about: the bastardisation of the Sydney rail network.
