Anglers Reach, Lake Eucumbene (when there was water). Fish? Bugger all: lots of 45cm tiddlers.

Hard to tell my tent eh? The black beer gives it away readily enough.

Bucko caught plenty of flies. That was the evenening we'd returned from Tolbar Inlet (some 40 minutes at full noise) 'cause we'd emptied the on-board kill box (beer box - fish hang over the side). Decided we'd have a "snack" before heading up to Providence Portal (where the photos were taken) and re-stock the kill box. A nine cultlet rack of lamb was seared in the skillet and, it being a snack, was consumed sans vegies. Yum.

That was the last weekend of November: Adaminaby Cup weekend 2004. Used to go every year (the Rear Admiral included) until EI stopped it. I'd backed that many winners that I'd shouted the last several at the track and then put $100 over the bar at the Snow Goose Hotel in town. I woke up the next day with a little less that $1,400 in my kick.

Salad days: they happen once or twice a decade if you're lucky.

Planning to head to the 'Juck in October with a mate for some cod.

This is your best yet, Mike!

A study in understatement, the apparent absence of any actual fish is counterpointed by the overwhelming piscatoriality of the scenes depicted here. These images just scream out: FISH!!

We look upon the glassy lake, and we can't help but see this very lake has a thousand eyes, all gazing surfaceward with sport or trepidation. 'Catch me if you can!' is writ large upon that lake.

Now there's another couple Jacob - taken from the camp. Lancelot flyfishing the point up from our camp - the bugger caught a decent fish too.

Guess who's missing from the chair in the last shot??

It's all a shame actually. That entire area is now dry and grassed over. It was some 55% at the time. Eucumbene will agin rise this spring - to some 25% - and be drained to 10% by next June.

I have seen the best years of that impoundment. I just didn't realise it at the time.

Oooh, nothing like a warm camp fire.

We used to have turns at guessing what forms the shapes took.

Great fun when you're pissed.

Those were the days....
