Historic day for Bogans and fishwives

Australian Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard has in some quarters been dismissed — somewhat unfairly, in my view — as “the Bogan Fishwife”.

Well, they said she’d never make it...

Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard may be making political history today, but the first woman to lead the country since federation says it will be “business as usual”.

Ms Gillard will assume prime ministerial duties over the next two days while Prime Minister Kevin Rudd attends the climate change conference in Bali.

Acting PM Bogan Fiswife. Bogan....an Irish name?

Certainly Celtic in origin. Variants include Borgan, Borag, Brogden, Brogan, Borgia, etc.

Oh but "the first woman to lead the country since federation..."

Were there women leading the country before federation, then?

Loved the vid on the other thread, by the way. Puts a face to the dementia.

Anyway, congratulations Julia!!!

I am woman, hear me roar

A house majority too big to ignore...

Oh for Pete's sake!

"I am woman, hear me roar"

Never ever seen the Bogan Fishwife in a frock now!

How can we be really sure that she is a woman, eh?

Anyhow, I have always been a great believer in the best PERSON for the job.
Whether Gillard IS the best person for the job... Well,I guess time will tell.
Too much is being made, of the fact that Gillard is a "woman" in the top job.

Fair comment, Kath... time will tell.

What has me wondering is: Who's looking after Julia's Super-Portfolio while she's doing the Hear-Me-Roar Acting Prime Ministerial thing.

Do they backfill these positions? If so, then who is Acting Minister for All The Important Bits while Kev's off on his junket in Bali?

Imagine her critics might be singing:

I am Bogan, hear me screech

My numbers keep me out of reach...

Or something.

Oh Kath...calm down girl.

Like the "Bogan Fishwife" said yesterday - doesn't matter that people like her (Labor/liberal etc) but if other women see a female has made the acting PM and some decide to follow, it's got to be good.

No argument. Fancy a female PM (not neccessarily the Bogan)?

Perhaps I will start an AH meme: Julia Hate. Then I can prattle on about the "Julia haters" every time someone says something about her?

Nah, there's probably an intlellectual property thingy on the net about doing that.

Getting the alliteration right could be a problem.

The Howard Haters v. Howard Huggers dichotomy was always going to be difficult to match.

Meanwhile I'm looking forward to headlines like:

Office of PM sullied by Gillard shock frock

Off topic I know, but noticing that elsewhere "Eliot Ramsey" had a go at Jacob for making a "Freudean" [sic] slip and thought Jacob may be interested to know he'd mentioned a "Freudean" slip at least once before ... back when he was using another identity.

Fishwife Friend vs Fishwife Foe?

Ta, Craig, but I don't need to follow that url, as it's quite obvious that the commenters are one and the same.

Anyone outside of WD who maintains otherwise is either being disingenuous or not paying attention.

That one is obliged, by WD rules of civility etc., to maintain the fiction at WD is one of life's little jests.

I think ER was trying to insinuate that I was somehow, and for nefarious purposes, trying to conflate Iraqi refugees in Lebanon with those in Syria, "while we were talking about Syrian refugee camps."

Strange, when no-one had been "talking" about Syria on that thread for three days, and the most recent comment was from Ian MacDougall two days previously banging on about his theory of race.

But I'm not much interested in playing gotcha and counter-gotcha in the WD sandbox.

I dunno Dylan, doesn't quite roll off the palate like

Hhhhhoward Hhhhater

No doubt someone will soon hit on a winning formula.

Also interesting that Howard/Costello has been seamlessly replaced with Rudd/Gillard as the dreadful duo/dream team.

Oh good lord, this identity thing obsession again. Why do such things matter so much? For the life of me, I have never been able to understand it.

I can understand the utility of people leaving a nickname or a handle in some kind of consistent way.

When someone leaves no name or constantly changes their name, it gets hard to have a coherent discussion with them but the obsession with identity per se has me totally bemused.

Major newspapers have no such obsession about online posters so it is beyond my comprehension why people involved in interminably obscure blogs get excited about such matters.

It is downright weird.

So what is all this about? Eliot Ramsay is C Parsons?

Why on earth does this piece of meaningless minutiae excite people of extraordinarily small minds?

Surely the content of the comment is the issue?

This whole "I am clever, look how two people have the same style / make the same mistakes" thing makes me laugh. It belittles the person making the observation. It makes them seem pathetic and small.

It is also funny because so often such people get things wrong. They connect dots that simply do not exist. It goes together with a manic left wing personality.

What if the dots do exist? Why is this important? I simply do not understand. I know what people generally think of me on this blog so perhaps you can add "intellectually inadequate" because I simply cannot get any of this nonsense.

I would have thought if one disagreed with either C Parsons or Eliiot Ramsay, one should attack such poster on the basis of their arguments.

What's with the identity witch hunt? Is that all about making an inadequate person feel good about themselves? They can't win an argument on merit so they go about some crazed witch hunt that damages not only the forum in which the witch hunt takes place but also damages the person who engages in such nonsense behaviour.

The intense and eternal stupidity of man is on exhibition every day.

It happens right here. Stay tuned.

Oh and spare me Father Park and your associated refugees and miscellaneous hangers on. This is not about your pet topics. It is another issue.

Oh and spare me Father Park...

I'll spare you nothing. You think that pre-emptive phrase allows cover?

Your co-obsessions are made for each other, Mr and Mrs Rowley/Heidelberg.

If fish were as predictable as you Harry, lure makers would out of business.

Enjoy a lifetime of chasing each other around the internet.

Obsession, Harry? Nah, just a statement of the bleedin' obvious.

Personally I couldn't give a rat's arse if CP wanted to call himself Renee Wittgenstein or whatever.

You have a point, of course. The identity hangup is akin to someone speculating about supposed intercepting and shepherding activities of others.

I can understand, however, that the matter of identity would become an issue to the individuals involved. Particularly in a forum that aspires to 'goodwill' and an 'ethical' framework such as WD.

Having said that, I can understand that MK took the individual concerned at his word. What else could she do? To her credit, she avoided going the way of the witch hunt.

My primary concern has always been that a person is the most suitable candidate for a role. Under the circumstances I couldnt really care less that the deputy PM is a woman.
While I didnt vote for them, I wish the current mob well and I hope they do a decent job. It has always struck me as incredibly malicious and nasty that someone would hope for a great catastrophe purely to a chance for political point scoring for themselves.
There has been far too much of it around the last few years.
I notice the dreaded persona bit has been raised again. Im not so naive as to think the two are different people. by the same token I also remember the continual vendetta (bordering on obsession) by at least one of the WD team in trying to have CP banished from WD. Seems the fixation has transferred to ER now.
Somethings never change, I expect it will continue on and on.

Father Park and Jacob I will put up some good model railway links in the other thread.

Regards to all,

Excellent, Craig. Give me your pick of the bunch and I'll pop it in the sidebar.

Yes, the vendetta aspect is not healthy. Better to have a bit of fun if possible, or to simply ignore if not.

And Cheers to you

Oh and sorry to all. I should not have even made a comment at all.

I just saw it and did a knee jerk response.

If people want to do the identity thing then that is fair enough. Just do it.

I shall return to my little world from whence I came.

S O R R Y !

...and Merry Christmas.

This is not a time to be fighting with people over insignificant matters.

I did wrong and I withdraw.

If I was doing more knee jerk I would bring up the witch hunt that surrounded Jay White, but let's just let it ride.

Oh and Jacob, I doubt Craig and I will spend a lifetime chasing each other about the internet.

We have even been both commenting lately on Webdiary. There was a time when I never thought that would happen.

It was Craig's falling out with Webdiary that got me back there.

Now that he's back, I don't really mind.

It is not as if there will be a meeting of the minds but we won't be chasing each other around the internet.

Eventually both parties tire of it.

The Jolanda thing was instructive. You said I baited her and she did not respond.

See what I mean? In the end every dog has its day and nothing lasts forever.

Often the good things survive and the bad things die off.

Er yeah Harry, I don't really think you and CraigR "will spend a lifetime chasing each other about the internet" either. That was Father Park's off-the-cuff remark.

Don't remember saying anything about you baiting Jolanda either, but I might have said something off-the-cuff like that. Hope she's fairing well in her travails with the demonic Education Dept. I keep meaning to look in but...

While we're vaguely on the topic of Cuddly Kev, I was sitting near a chap on the train this morning who was picking bits from his nose, ears and face and quite unselfconsciously eating them. He would even pick the bits he missed out of his fingernails for consumption, too.

This was a middle aged bloke, but he didn't seem all that 'present', or aware of the commuting humanity around him, poor chap.

That guy was nothing as compared to a couple of young teen boys on the train last night.

They each consumed a pack of Extra gum, discarding the wrappers on the floor with all their other refuse, while stuffing the sweets into their mouths, chewing determinedly. Every now and then they'd take the big gob of goo out of their mouths for inpection. In the end they stuffed it behind the seat.

I was torn between bursting out laughing and telling them not to be such little grubs. So instead I popped the earphones in and listened to a podcast.

Err, that one too.

See what I mean? In the end every dog has its day and nothing lasts forever.

Indeed. I did notice her on Piers Ackerman's blog (I think) during the campaign "banging away". As usual.
