‘Swan dives’ begin

To my knowledge, this is the first of many such headlines that will appear in the years ahead:

Tee hee. Swan... dives... Get it?

Expect to see many more of such clever word play, particularly when the economy takes a ‘dive’, as it inevitably will.

Who knows, maybe ‘swan dive’ will become Australian vernacular for ‘economic downturn’.

Which reminds me of a poem.

The Silver Swan who, living, had no note,
When death approached unlocked her silent throat.
Leaning her breast against the reedy shore,
Thus sung her first and last,
And sung no more:

Farewell all joys, O death come close mine eyes.
More geese than swans now live, more fools than wise.

There's something in that for all of us I think!

Beautiful Kath!

That's Orlando Gibbons' song of the mute swan that sings only with its dying breath. Isn't that a similar theme to the eponymous 'Thorn Birds' of Colleen McCulloch's torrid novel?

By the way, it seems the wussy Australian economy is headed for a bit of a downturn. But shouldn't this one rightly be called a 'Costello dive'?

Farewell consumer joys, O recession come close our eyes.

I disagree Jacob. I disagree viloently.

Don't what about, just thought it best to register it for the virtual record.

I disagree. Strongly.

You should have recorded it on the virtual register.

Registering stuff for virtual records is fascist, racist and enviro-vandalism. Only worthless liars who discharge snot, pus and other oozy matter when poked with things would tend to register virtual records.

You will record on virtual registers and like it, or I'm afraid I'll have to start disagreeing vehemently.

In the strongest possible terms: I disagree.

Now, what were we discussing?

I notice you've linked to Pothos? A rather arcane site for many I'd guess. How about Roman Army Talk - part of the group that publishes Ancient Warfare?

May as well direct to a few arcane sites eh? Perhaps Craig might offer a model train site??

By the way, how does one disagree viloently?

Gotta wonder about my fingers....

How about Roman Army Talk...

Check out this photo of a young fella with interests in the Romans who would later go to get a haircut, learn Chinese and run the country.

Oh gawd... little Kevvie!! How seventies he looks.

Oh alright, I own up: I'm Kevvies age, in fact just a coupla months older.

So the little girlie swot was winner of Youth Speaks for Australia 1974. Well pahrdon me while I go play on the Grahnd Piahno.

Bertie, I thought you might find the pothos link convenient for quick exit in case of sudden deluge of snot, pus, etc.

But I'm open to any suggestions as to exotic blog links. Not too exotic, though, after all this is a quasi-family blog.

Speaking of which, has Josh penned any more verse he would care to share?

'Disagreeing violently' is I believe debate by other means, involving anything from vigorous gesticulation to knuckle-dusters.
